Where is this ride taking me and do I really want to go there?

Big Stuff

Due to overwhelming stress caused by taking too many classes the decision was made to drop my German class for the time being. I guess the couple of weeks of random crying outbursts and lack of sleep had taken their toll on me. For now I’m so excited to have a little more time in the week to do homework for other classes and even possibly get some knitting in that I think it’s the right decision.

But even more exciting right now is that in just a few hours I will be in Memphis, TN for the MLA annual meeting. Looking at the emails I’ve received and people with whom I’ve spoken this should be a really enjoyable experience. I hope to make it to Graceland. Pics and stories to follow. Then, when I return it’s spring break. So things are really looking up right now.

As far as knitted things go, Fiona’s sweater is moving slowly but still happening when I’m able and I’ve picked a new pair of socks to work on for this trip. I finished the last pair at a musicology conference so it seems fitting that I make a pair at this one. I’m sure these will go much more quickly as I’m using a fairly simple pattern.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Paul sent me these tulips as an early gift and last night we went to La Tasca for tapas. Thank you Paul!

Deutsche bringt mich noch in Grab.

Don't get me wrong, I like the German language and I would like to become more proficient in it. But this no credit pass/fail class is going to kill me. Between Tuesday and today I had to translate about 40 sentences, on top of all the other junk I have to get done. I find myself looking up simple words like auch and immer in the dictionary because I'm so frazzled. Music bib is a good class also but much like 553 with Alphonse, I have to spend hours and hours in the library to acquaint myself with a myriad of obscure reference works and answer a few questions.

At least I’m cooking up some stew that looks like it will be amazing. It will be even better tomorrow. If Paul’s nice I might even save him some.
