scatterbrained

Where is this ride taking me and do I really want to go there?

busy times or why smoggo is too lame to post regularly

I’m sorry that I’ve been so bad about posting lately. Things have just been busy and when ever I have a free moment I have been relaxing by reading, knitting or playing video games.

I’ve been asked MANY times in the past week and a half if I feel any different now that I’m married. Honestly other than getting used to wearing a ring I don’t feel at all different. In response to the request for pictures I have them set as a private page on flickr. If you would like an invite and have not already received one please email or leave a comment and I will get you an invite.

In general both friends and family have been very supportive of our decision to have a simple private ceremony followed by tow receptions, one on each coast. But there has been one, very vocal, opponent to this. That is Myrna. She decided to tell me that she was hurt by being excluded and how could I do this to everyone. This has really been bothering me, I haven’t wanted to hurt anyone. I just wanted something simple just for Paul and me. I don’t like being in front of a lot of people and we certainly don’t have the money to spend on a big production regardless of what coast we did it.

I know I shouldn’t let it bother me. I mean I’m happy with the way everything has gone. I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything by not having a big wedding. I’m married to the man I love and that is enough. But I’m still haunted by the idea that everyone I know and care about is upset with me and my decision.

On a happier note Paul and I are going to NYC this weekend because my fantastic Grandma will be there. She is a remarkable and wonderful lady and I feel blessed to have her in my life. I hope that she likes Paul.

mr and mrs

Today was THE day.  We got married, the weather was fantastic.  Unfortunately Anna
couldn't go so it was just Ray, Pastor Byron, Paul and I.  I was really happy with
everything.  It just feels strange to wear a ring.  Also to be Mrs. C.

On Wednesday the ladies at work had a shower for me, I learned a lot more about their personal lives than I really wanted to know.  But it was fun and I laughed so much my face hurt.

Paul's mom even gave us a gift this week, a KitchenAid mixer.  I can't wait until the weather cools down a little more and I can start baking.

rings

We were expecting our rings today but they didn't come with the regular mail
so I emailed the store to ask about the status.  Literally  a few minutes later
the mail lady came back and delivered the rings they are just what we wanted.

But the email I got back from the seller made me feel awful for being in such a hurry, his daughter had been badly burned at her preschool and he has had to deal with police investigations concerning that  here is the article about her and her poor feet.  I do however highly recommend Iverson Corp. Jewelry if you are looking for titanium jewelry.

Ok, you want info? Then info you will get.

We have decided to get married on August 18 at 11 am at Centennial Park in Columbia, MD.
There is a lovely spot near the lake that has a bunch of lily pads. We went there this past
Saturday and took some pictures. You can see them. We found someone to perform a ceremony that we are helping to adjust to our own wants, for a reasonable fee. It is amazing what some people will charge to marry you.

Our friend Anna will be there to video and Paul’s friend Ray will take pictures. Like Julie I will
get those in an invite only page to share our day. I have a dress that I picked up a while ago that will be nice for that day and I plan on picking up some flowers that morning. We ordered our
rings and they were shipped this morning, they are matching titanium bands with a silver inlay
in the center, this is similar to what we are getting

We aren’t going away or anything that night but we might go have dinner at the Melting Pot to celebrate. Then we plan on spending the rest of the weekend doing fun stuff together.

Now if I could just figure out what to do with my hair!

I can't believe that I forgot!

My two-year blogiversary just passed and I forgot.  This is terrible.  We a year in retrospect.  I not only
survived another year of grad school I actually graduated and am now a "real" librarian.  I even got
business cards yesterday.   Met the man I will marry, found a home with him and I'm a week and a
half from getting married.  I survived the meeting of the families, job hunting, buying my first new
car, and giving up my Oregon residency.

I hope that the year ahead will hold a lot of happiness, travel, and peace, not only for me, but my
family, friends and the world as a whole.

new things

I get busy and forgetful and don’t blog sometimes, sorry!

Two weekends ago Paul and I went bike shopping. We ended up at Dicks in Columbia and didn’t really see anything that was in my price range or had what I wanted. Then Paul found it suspended from the ceiling. My bike, a 2006 Diamondback Coil EX, it even was a small frame. It was marked returned—as is orig. $599.99 now $149.99. I couldn’t believe that it was so inexpensive. It has been ridden and it shows but I will most likely add a few scratches of my own so it’s not a big deal. Now we just need another helmet and we will be off riding, but nothing we big for now as I haven’t really done much riding in about 4 years.

This past weekend we drove up to Philadelphia to look at a school that he is considering. On the way up I finally saw another Rabbit on the road, a twin to my own. That was pretty exciting.

As for knitting news there is something exciting happening at work. I mentioned that the top I was wearing the other day was something I made, the shapely tank of last summer. Well she told someone else and they told someone else then I was asked to start a knitting/crochet group at work. On Friday we had a student appreciation day and advertised all of the different clubs available. So I brought a few of my FOs and tried to get people to sign up for the Fiber Arts Club. So far I have about 6 staff members and 3 students signed up to meet every other Friday for an hour or so. This should be a good way to get to know some of my co-workers a little better and get to know some students.

I’m excited about this group!
