water update

This morning I woke at 7:30 and needed to use the restroom. I'm glad I checked my sink before I went down the hall because there was still no water. So I had to get dressed and walk over to the Pryz. At about 9:30 there was another email from the RA and there were problems and we won't have water until 11am.

Some people either didn't know or didn't care about the water outage and the bathroom is getting stinky.

Ugg the joys of community living.

Read or Die

After I got out of 20th century music at 4 pm I had an email from the RA to apologize but out water was turned off at 7pm and won’t return until 7am. Yeah only a couple hours notice, how nice. I did have time to fill my water bottle and pitcher but the problem is bathroom facilities. They put Port-a-Potties in the Caldwell parking lot. Leahy is the normal place to go but they don’t have water either. So Liz and I are planning a trip to the Pryz for a potty trip before it closes at midnight.

But I did have a good experience tonight. I watched a wonderful anime that Wog recommended a while ago. It is Read or Die. Yeah this girl loves books more than you can believe. She works for the Rare Books Special Ops team for the British Library. She also has magical abilities with paper. Agent Paper finds a book about Beethoven at a bookshop and it leads to an action filled adventure with books. The DVD had a bibliography of the books mentioned and includes the LC call number, yeah it is so cool. I highly recommend for any fans of boos, anime or both.

things moving slowly

The last week or so has been pretty boring. Such is the life of a grad student. I have tons and tons of reading. I did see Wedding Crashers on Sunday with xander, it was pretty funny. I also baked bread yesterday, I find it really relaxing.

the joy of sharing

Did I mention that while in Oregon that taught not 1, not 2, but 3 people how to knit! When we were at Eagle Crest Mom pulled out the tape she made for me of Knitty Gritty episodes. While we were watching it Nat and Tif were interested so I pulled some BBQ skewers out of the kitchen and using those and some loose yarn I had the girls were knitting in no time.

But the best part is that I taught the wonderful Wog. I’ve tried to show her before but it just didn’t take. This time she must have been more open to the experience. When I talked to her the other day and she had just checked out knitting books from the library and can’t wait for me to show her how to purl at Christmas. I’m so excited that I can share this with people.

another week

I must begin with giving a giant congratulations to Julie for getting her first real librarian job. I know she will be great.

Things with me have been pretty unexciting. I did the the movie the Brothers Grimm on Saturday, D, Sarah and I all agree that it was awesomly bad. I took Liz to and retrieved her from the airport, where she was visiting Buffalo and Sandy. I also went to the Asian grocery store and had fun looking at all of the strange Asian food.

I realized in class today that I did the wrong listening so I didn't have much to contribute to the discussion, but I should be fine for next week. I also really don't care much for Strauss or Mahler, none of the art music of the early 20th century appeals to me. Give me the Renaissance or Middle Ages any day.

I have to look at the website for a college library and judge it by Nielson's Ten Heuretics for Thursday that should be interesting. And for 711 I get to do some score ID, that was my favorite part of music history tests as an undergrad. You get a little piece of music and have to list everything that you notice about it. It's much easier than roman numeral analysis.

school's back

I know I've been slacking but I have had computer problems. The first 2 weeks of classes are over, thank goodness. I also started my new job at Mullen. The classes I have are going to be a LOT more reading than what I've had before. Fortunately these are also the most interesting classes (with the exception of one) that I've had. I'm trying to keep up with my knitting but it's not the top priority right now. I did finish one of the Hurry Up Spring Armwarmers from Stitch & Bitch Nation, this will be Angi's Christmas present. I cast the other on a couple of days ago but haven't touched it since. I did finish a scarf for Tim and I hope to post a pic later. It is Elesbeth Lavold Silky Wool in a most beautiful blue color, I used a drop stitch pattern that turnes out really well.
